Northgate Church Football Team
Northgate Church FC has been growing over the last few years since the early 5-a-side days in Saltney and now plays in a 7-a-side and 11-a-side format. After several years of great leadership, Chris Davenport stepped down in February 2007 and handed the Captaincy to Al Gray, with Matt Smith as Vice Captain. In early 2010 Al and Matt both stepped down after 3 impressive years at the helm. Aaron Edwards has now taken on the mantle and is doing a great job guiding Northgate to the top of the league in his first season in charge!
The team serves two main objectives; To play competitive sport and to provide a platform for relationship between the church and the wider community. Playing in a team of Christians and non-Christians is a great opportunity to witness to others in an ideal environment to be set apart from the norm.
The team has a strict ethos for fair play and wholesome attitude which has been praised by match officials on many occasions. Playing with a full and aggressive passion for the game while retaining a pure heart is a constant challenge that each Northgate player is accountable for, a quality which speaks volumes for one’s self control and mindset.
NG-FC competes in two Chester based leagues. Every Monday night, the 7-a-side team play in Upton in an FA Winter and Summer League. Although this is the core team, there are further opportunities to play on Saturday afternoons as part of the Link Up League. This 11-a-side league brings together teams from the churches involved in Link Up across Chester.
We are always looking for new players to join the team and welcome men over the age of 16. For those interested and for more information, please contact the church office.
